Resource Allocation in Multisite Service Systems with Intersite Customer Flows

چکیده
Motivated by a project in health care management, we study the resource allocation problem in multisite service systems with inter-site customer flows. We aim at providing insights to and guidelines for resource allocation in these service systems when some service criterion, such as average waiting time, loss rate, or blocking probability, is a major concern. We develop analytical optimization models and from them we obtain the explicit optimal allocation policy. Our results demonstrate that the simple proportional allocation rule, which is often used by planners, is not optimal. Our optimal resource allocation exhibits a structure of “one large and many small”.

Reliable location-allocation model for congested systems under disruptions using accelerated Benders decomposition
This paper aims to propose a reliable location-allocation model where facilities are subject to the risk of disruptions. Since service facilities are expected to satisfy random and heavy demands, we model the congested situations in the system within a queuing framework which handles two sources of uncertainty associated with demand and service. To insure the service quality, a minimum limit re...

As mobile data traffic increases, and the number of services provided by the mobile network increases, service load flows as well, which requires changing in the principles, models, and strategies for media transmission streams serving to guarantee the given nature of giving a wide scope of services in Flexible and cost-effective. Right now, the fundamental question remains what number of netwo...
متن کاملApproximation Methods for Solving the Equitable Location Problem with Probabilistic Customer Behavior
Location-allocation of facilities in service systems is an essential factor of their performance. One of the considerable situations which less addressed in the relevant literature is to balance service among customers in addition to minimize location-allocation costs. This is an important issue, especially in the public sector. Reviewing the recent researches in this field shows that most of t...
متن کاملA Heuristic Approach to Distributed Generation Source Allocation for Electrical Power Distribution Systems
The recent trends in electrical power distribution system operation and management are aimed at improving system conditions in order to render good service to the customer. The reforms in distribution sector have given major scope for employment of distributed generation (DG) resources which will boost the system performance. This paper proposes a heuristic technique for allocation of distribut...
متن کاملSequential Resource Allocation for Nonprofit Operations
This paper studies a sequential resource allocation problem motivated by distribution operations of a nonprofit organization. The alternate objectives that arise in nonprofit, as opposed to commercial, operations lead to new variations on traditional problems in operations research and inventory management. Specifically, we consider the problem of distributing a scarce resource to meet sequenti...
